Bold action to tackle the climate crisis is more urgent than ever. The record-breaking heat, floods, storms, drought, and wildfires devastating communities around the world underscore the grave risks we already face. The climate crisis is not “gender neutral”. Gender inequality coupled with the climate crisis is one of the greatest challenges of our time. It poses threats to ways of life,
livelihoods, health, safety and security for women and girls around the world. Climate change has serious ramifications in four dimensions of food security: food availability, food accessibility, food utilization and food systems stability. Women farmers currently account for 45- 80% of all food production in developing countries depending on the region. About two-thirds of the
female labour force in developing countries are engaged in agricultural work. With same access to resources as men, women can increase the crop production yield by 20-30%. However only 5 out of 75 member states included in UN International Peace and Security Council recognize gender considerations as important parameters in responding to climate related security risks. Women and children bear much of the brunt, being 14 times more likely than men to die during a disaster.
There is an urgent need for developing gender sensitive policies and interventions in climate action and agriculture. In order to support Women Empowerment through green policies and financial solutions to decrease women vulnerability to climatic & disaster risk, Cyntax Health Projects PVT LTD, the 1 st female pharmacist led contract research organization registered with DRAP has signed an MoU with Concave Agri, a premier Agritech solutions and services company, integrating technology with agriculture to synergize and cultivate a path to precision farming throughout Pakistan’s agricultural landscape. This partnership will lead to development of technical and non-technical solutions for identifying priorities and developing policies for gender inclusive climate safety action, climate-Smart Technologies and Practices, Low Emissions Development, Climate Services and Safety Nets, Gender
and Social Inclusion and practices for scaling Climate-Smart Agriculture for women.
The MoU was signed by Prof. Dr. Madeeha Malik, CEO Cyntax Health Projects PVT LTD and Mr. Ali Iqbal, President Concave Agri. Mr. Ather Imran, CEO Sybrid appreciated the efforts of both the organizations for incorporating gender perspectives and involving women as agents of change in climate action responses and agriculture.
